The Ames Main Street FunHunt is a scavenger hunt through downtown Ames using the iPhone FunHunt app. When a player visits a location shown on the map, they receive a puzzle to solve. Solve them all and receive a small prize (redeemable Saturdays from 8:00 AM - noon at the Ames Main Street Farmer’s Market FunHunt booth on September 7, 14, 21, or by arrangement).
There are two FunHunt scavenger hunts that are available. One is designed to be a good starter game, and the other one is a bit more challenging. Each has five puzzles that can be done in any order, and each FunHunt is designed to take a total of 30-90 minutes (though feel free to spend as little or as much time as you’d like).
The Ames Main Street FunHunt is available from Saturday, September 7th, 2024 to Friday, September 27th, 2024. It can be played anytime, day or night, but if you want to stop in some of the shops (not required), you’ll want to play during regular business hours. The scavenger hunt does not exclusively take place on Main Street, but does not extend past a three block region of Ames’s downtown.
The FunHunt app is currently only available on the iPhone and is in beta. Getting the app takes several steps. First, you need Apple’s app for beta testing, TestFlight. Download it on your phone from the following link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/c9WajuDs. Open TestFlight and follow the instruction, but ignore any message about an invitation or redeem code. Now you need to get the FunHunt app. The easiest way to do that is reclick the link above and download the app. Open FunHunt and select play. Then select “Enter game code” and use one of the following game codes: Ames-F24A for the starter FunHunt Ames-F24B for the intermediate one. Capitalization matters (and the dash fills in automatically). The appropriate scavenger hunt will download and be available to play. If you need help with anything, visit us at our booth, described in "The What" section.
The developers of this app are long-time residents of Ames and love Ames and its downtown. FunHunt is currently in beta development, and we wanted to find a way to both test the app and create something fun for the community. We hope that you enjoy the experience. If you do (or don’t), please give us your feedback - your suggestions are very helpful. We can be reached at "contact" at this website address (without "www").
